First, a repaint of an old one to explore some ways of getting a more traditional painterly look. Had fun with a lot of smudge brushes.

A couple more in different states of finish.

These next two started out as the same one and got different as they developed.

A couple more. This next guy still needs work.... getting there.

The next two are also relatives..... and started with the same under-painting.

This next one is prolly the closest to done.... just needs a couple kids playing in the front yard for scale.

This one needs a whole bunch of bounce light from the bottom up to lessen the predominance of dark shapes.... it is getting close though, just needs that and a couple more identifiable items in it to help it read better.... maybe a boat or two... a couple more people in the middle distance and some refinement for the shafts of light (don't want to adjust the levels until all the details and mid-tones are more dialed in).

Hi all, here is a bunch of the stuff I have been working on in my spare time.

First a bunch of enviros. Major influences for these are Tom Scholes and Jaimie Jones. I just kept painting over the one before..... so you can see a little bit of the progression on these and little things I kept around from painting to painting.

This is just an experimental pass at a tonal treatment for a comic one of my old friends created. I am doing the B/W paint-over on his inks/leads.

His name is Daniel Baxter, here is a link to his website, where he created tens of thousands of handmade stuffed dolls... Truly amazing shit. Cheers to you Danny!

Been playing a lot of Gears of War 3

This was just a splash of a lot of scans all set to darken on top of each other that I merged and painted back into... it was fun, it's a nice way to recycle old stuff and to tease your mind into seeing new shapes and characters. A nice random undertaking.

In this next one you can see the thumbnail that led to the third environment I posted at the top ( The one with all the red sails in it....not sure if anyone cares about the rough stuff, but what the hell)..... Wanted to post a page of these graphite drawings in an unaltered state. Another dragon, this one influenced a lot by Arthur Rackham's work.

Thought I would give a classic color scheme and set of subject matter a go.

Trying to paint with color from the get go. thought I would start with a pretty monochromatic idea to get the ball rolling.

here it is, couple of hours in photoshop on the new asus tablet........ not sure I really like the thing. gamut is bad, res is pretty low and it gets confused, seems like the cache craps out or something..... color goes all overbright and washy.... anyone who has one, let me know if you know a fix.

I wanted to edit aspects of this enviro that seemed not so cool to me once I had a chance to look at it for a while. Got rid of the orange in the sky and played with more squarish shapes in the middle range of detail.

I like this one more.

To follow up on the PO I did of the girl in the last post, I worked up a version from graphite sketch to final without any of the cheating :) like on the first one.

It was a great exercise and helped me commit a lot of valuable information to memory. I recommend it.

Hey all, I was really excited to get the chance to work on the tail-end of the upcoming Hothead product, "The Baconing". This game represents the third installment of the Deathspank trilogy.

I created a bunch of marketing and promotional materials in addition to many (if not all) of the banners and headers for the various platforms that the game is now available on.

Was getting really tired of not painting, so made a real effort to stick to painting my shapes as opposed to stamping them or using custom brushes. Lots of reuse of image.

The order is more or less the order they were made in..... kind of just swept back and forth acoross them adding bits from all of them to others.

Going to continue to work them up, bit by bit. Basically adding people for scale and all of the tertiary bits like electrics, railings etc.
